Mini Art Projects: Painting
I’m not a full-time creative. I mean, I am, but I don’t get paid for it like a full-time employee. Sometimes, my creative fix needs to come quickly. I like to paint mini canvases. Even the prep of those canvases can tide me over. Recently, I laid down the base layer on about forty 2x2” canvases, twenty-four 2x3” canvases, and a dozen 3x9” ones. I don’t go into the process with a plan other than this: the paint I have, the brushes, and an internal plea not to get paint on the rental's floor.*
I’m not left with any finished projects. Most of the canvases are a solid color of paint. Some are blends. None of them is left white, and it feels like an hour well spent. When finished, they’ll sit on a rolling cart in the corner until I find a 15-minute window, in which inspiration strikes. Thematically, I stick with coffee, cactus, flowers, aliens, trees, and mountains. The occasional curse word or motivational phrase slips in when I need a pick-me-up.
*This is also an external plea from my lovely wife.
