Fresh writing. Natural and informative dialogue. It’s several stories from two perspectives. Beautiful imagery. A risky road trip to uncertain destinations of finding fresh intentions midstream or in this case, mid-road. Illustrates that the equation for coincidence is time and place.
What is it about road trips that is so appealing? Part of the answer must the deep contemplation the best of such journeys can induce. Steering becomes hypnotic and the mind wanders, landing on insights otherwise overlooked or unexplored; not unlike the various breaks one takes along the way. Through inventive description, Ryan Woldt’s, “Eli and Jane” follows an emotionally risky American road trip to uncertain destinations from two perspectives. Natural and informative inner dialogue balances beautiful physical imagery, with thoughtful, searching introspection. Eli and Jane is one of those books you take with you for a relaxing weekend away. It's short enough to finish in a couple sittings, but compelling enough to lose yourself in. From the moment you meet the main characters, you begin to wonder how their paths will cross and what will come of it. And when Eli and Jane do meet, the tension between them builds with a slow and steady burn that will keep you turning the page to find out more. The story is well-crafted and the writing style smooth, unpretentious, and easy to read. I highly recommend Eli and Jane for anyone that follows this genre. - Nathan
